Introducing our 2025-2026 ECR Representatives
The British Society for Neuroendocrinology recently welcomed our new Deputy ECR Representative, Dr Joao Cavalcanti De Albuquerque (pictured). The new ECR Representatives are now:
- Dr Miguel Ruiz Cruz, ECR Representative
- Dr Joao Cavalcanti De Albuquerque, Deputy ECR Representative
Miguel took over from Dr Jessica Chadwell earlier this year as the ECR Representative and Joao now takes over as Deputy.
We asked Joao why he decided to apply to become Deputy ECR Represetatives and what he hopes to bring to the BSN community:
Why did you decide to apply to become the BSN Deputy ECR Representative?
I decided to apply for the role of BSN Deputy ECR Representative because I want to play an active part in the BSN ECR community and contribute to its growth. Since starting my postdoc in the UK in 2022, I’ve benefited from the opportunities and support the BSN provides, and I believe the best way to give back is to serve my peers. This role offers me the opportunity to support fellow early-career researchers, strengthen our network, and ensure our collective voice is heard within the BSN.

What do you hope you'll learn from and bring to the BSN community as an ECR Representative?
As an ECR Representative, I want to deepen my understanding of how the BSN supports and advocates for its members—whether that’s by encouraging collaboration, nurturing new research ideas, or offering career development opportunities. I’m also eager to see how societies like the BSN can influence the wider scientific landscape, particularly by hosting the kind of high-quality, welcoming meetings that bring researchers together across the UK.
In return, I would bring enthusiasm, a collaborative mindset, and a strong commitment to ensuring that early-career researchers have their voices heard. Drawing on my own experiences of navigating the challenges of early-career science, I hope to help shape initiatives that strengthen our community and create a more supportive environment for everyone.
Welcome Joao, we look forward to working with you to make ECR voices heard and represented within our Society.
