Biography
Associate Professor, University of Oxford, UK
I am a mid-career Associate Professor in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Oxford. I have a degree in Pharmacology (University of Edinburgh) and a doctorate in Pharmacology (University of London, Supervisors Julia Buckingham and Rod Flower). I moved to the Department of Physiology, Anatomy & Genetics, Oxford in 1996 for a post-doctoral fellowship and have stayed in the same department since being appointed Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences in 2000. My research interests are in the mechanisms of steroid hormone regulation of the pituitary gland and I am an expert in the application of electron microscopy techniques to the study of endocrine cell structure and function. In sharing this expertise I collaborate widely across the global neuroendocrine community. I sit on the board of trustees of the BSN as Journal of Neuroendocrinology secretary. I take seriously my educator role and have been awarded various University teaching awards including for innovative use of digital technology in teaching Endocrinology. I direct the Final year Undergraduate Medical Sciences course, Director of Graduate Studies and until recently academic lead for the Athena SWAN team. I have a family, children ages 12, 14 and 16.
